Retrofitting Humphree Lightning Automatic Trim and Stabilisation to a Riviera 33
The team at Shotgun Marine Services Port Macquarie performed a neat retrofit to this Riviera 33. The Riv 33 is inboard-powered and was initially built with trim-tab pockets.
The installation included 450mm interceptors, The comfort software package and underwater lights.
The steps involved:
- Removal of the old trim tabs
- Filling the trim tab pockets
- Painting and finishing the hull modifications
- Installing the interceptors and control panel
- Calibration and testing
Kurt Nocelli from SMS Port Macquarie said of the installation:
“The installation process for Humphree Lightning is refreshingly straightforward. The first stage was to undertake simple but essential modifications to the transom to create a perfectly flat surface. The aim is to mount the interceptors as wide as possible for maximum leverage”.
“Installing the interceptors is straightforward. The only hull penetrations are the fixing bolts and an entry for power and control cables. We then run the control connections to the cockpit.
“Next is initial calibration according to the boat’s length, beam and weight. We then refine the setting during a sea trial to ensure the right balance of performance and comfort across acceleration, turning and responsiveness within a variety of sea states.
“Our client is very impressed with the results, saying:
‘The boat is so much more comfortable - I can’t believe the results, it’s like a different boat. Being fully automatic allows me and everyone onboard to relax and enjoy the ride.’
